and be ready for the third day, for on the third day the Lord will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai. You shall set boundaries for the people all around, saying, "Take heed to yourselves so that you not go up onto the mountain or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain will surely be put to death. No hand will touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through, whether it be beast or man. He shall not live. When the trumpet sounds a long blast, they shall come up to the mountain. So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes. He said to the people, "Be ready for the third day. Do not go near your wives." So on the third day, in the morning, there was thunder and lightning, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud trumpet. All the people who were in the camp trembled. The Birth Certificate of America

The founders of this nation were biblical Christians, and they understood that God’s relationship to man was in the form of a covenant. Now the initial form of that covenant is what is known as the Mayflower Compact. This document has come to be known as the “birth certificate of America,” but is, in fact, the American Covenant, the covenant between the founders of this country and God.

The Mayflower Compact begins with the words, “In the name of God, Amen.” It goes on to say, “Having undertaken for the Glory of God and Advancement of the Christian Faith…a Voyage to plant the first Colony in the northern Parts of Virginia.” I want you to note well that they began it in the name of God and they said that they had undertaken to plant a colony in Virginia for two purposes: for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith. These were the dual aspects of this covenant and the twin reasons why they came to these shores, and it is why America was established.

Today, there are those who gnash their teeth at the very mention of the fact that America was founded as a Christian nation. But, my friends, the very facts of history are not easily dismissed, though they are certainly widely ignored in our schools and in many of our modern revisionist history books.

We can never hope to bring America back to the foundations that made it great if we renege upon the responsibility to fulfill the Great Commission to share the Gospel with all people. We have a task set before us today for the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and you can be that missionary right here to America—right here on these shores—to take the Gospel to those all about you who know not the Lord. My friends, if we do not do this and if secularism and godless unbelief take over this country, then the calamities that are going to fall upon this country can already be written down. Our freedoms will be ground under the heels of tyranny and despotism, and we will experience the various plagues that come upon the godless. This is what inevitably awaits America, if we do not act.
