Sermon:

The Greatest Struggle

Preached at: Washington D.C. - Banquet Hall (Council Partner Dinner)
Date: June 5, 2001
Today we are engaged in a great civil war. It’s not a war with bullets and bayonets, but it is a moral and spiritual war. The question now is not whether “any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure.” It is not a nation where we are having to decide whether all men are created equal. It is a war where we are trying to decide whether all men have been created at all. There are many forces within this country today that would be very happy if we could remove those words from our Declaration. In science class our students are told that they have evolved out of a primordial slime from some amoeba that has given them no rights at all.
